Choco Mucho “lacked composure,” admits Wong

MANILA, Philippines – The disparity in experience was evident when Team Choco Mucho lost to Kazakh club Zhetysu in the group stages of the Asian women’s club AVC 2021 volleyball championship in Thailand.

Choco Mucho fell to Zhetysu, the most successful club in the Kazakh women’s volleyball league, in two sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15, on Saturday at Terminal 21, in their second game.

Setter Deanna Wong said it all came down to composure.

“I think we lacked composure individually. This is what we really need: maturity in the game, on ourselves, as well as working together as a team, “said Wong who stressed that cohesion and chemistry should be improved as we move forward in the tournament.

“We should improve on these aspects by ourselves every day”,

Choco Mucho went 0-2 in Group A, but will still face team # 2 in Group B in the quarter-finals.

Unlike Zhetysu, who won nine titles in Kazakhstan, Team Rebisco has only been together for two months and is made up of players from different Premier Volleyball League clubs.

Head coach Odjie Mamon said his team slowly improved on the defensive side of the pitch, but admitted he was disappointed with the lack of urgency in attack.

“It was quite disappointing to be able to play well in defense but not be able to convert to attack,” said Mamon. “For now, we really need to work on team cohesion and make sure their teamwork really comes out of the game.”
